Do you ever get nervous before giving a presentation or talking in front of a group of people, even friends? How good would it be if you could feel centered, owerful, energized and totally confident instead?
Or perhaps there are times when you lack motivation to get things done, have no get up and go and lack confidence. Would it be useful if you could feel fired up and generally great so you can get on with what you need to do?
Or maybe you sometimes find it difficult to switch off and relax and enjoy your down time. How good would it be if you could feel calm, relaxed and happy and go with the flow instead?
In fact how good would it be in general if at any time you could instantaneously access a bunch of positive feelings all at the same time that would allow you to feel significantly different in yourself in a really great way– just imagine how that would make a difference to you!
Last time we shared with you how to do a basic anchor using just 4 steps - (RACE – Recall, Anchor, Change and Evoke) - so you could feel positive and resourceful at anytime just by accessing a specific feeling, or state as we call it. I hope you have been enjoying the benefits.
Well today I would like to share with you a super charged anchoring technique that can really help you to feel fantastic and empowered, so you can take the action you need to and to get results.
It is called resource anchoring and again it is very simple and effective.
This technique allows you to access a bunch of positive feelings at the same time so you feel really good and positive at anytime. It’s like an emotional pick me up to get you back on track.
You can have a generic resource anchor that helps you feel generally positive and good or ones that are more contextually based e.g. to help you relax at the end of the day or to be confident when giving a presentation. The choice is yours depending on what you want to use it for.
The steps are easy and are as follows:
Step 1 – Design your Resource Anchor
Pick a minimum of 5 positive feelings (states), that you would like to be able to access, one of them should be your equivalent of fell down laughing, as this is a really great positive feeling and works really well in an anchor.
E.g . for a Generic Resource Anchor
- fell down laughing. (Your equivalent e,g. Laughed your head off , laughed
uncontrollably, belly laughed)
- felt you could have whatever you wanted
Anchor each feeling/state on the SAME knuckle using the process we went through last time (RACE):
Here’s a reminder using fell down laughing:
1. Recall a past vivid experience
Can you remember a time when you totally fell down laughing. Remember a specific time and as you remember that time now imagine in your mind floating
down into your body and see what you saw, hear what you heard and really feel the feelings of totally falling down laughing
2. Anchor the state
Remember as soon as you can feel that feeling rising inside you take the index finger of your writing hand and apply some pressure to one of your knuckles on your other hand, make your other hand in to a fist, it makes it easier. Take your finger off your knuckle when you can feel the feeling start to lessen or you have held your finger on for upto 5 -15 seconds whilst you felt the feeling rise and peak inside you.
3. Change your state
Then have a look around the room, check your watch, look at the weather, smell the popcorn - anything to make sure you get out of that feeling (we call this a break state) because now we are going anchor the next feeling on the SAME knuckle, in the SAME place.
Repeat Step 2 in full for each of the following, breaking state in between each state – Smell the popcorn!
- A time when you felt totally powerful.
- A time when you felt totally loved.
- A time when you really felt you could have whatever you wanted, a time when
you could have it all.
- A time when you felt really energetic, when you had a ton of energy.
- A time when you felt totally confident.
Make sure you have broken state, (smell the popcorn!), after the last anchor and now we are going to test what you have anchored and whether it is a balanced combination for you and that it is going to do the job you need it to do!
Put your finger back on your knuckle with the same amount of pressure you used before and ask ‘How do I feel?’ You should be feeling generally really good and positive! You may or may not be able to specifically feel the individual states you anchored.
Now check if your resource anchor feels balanced? We want to make sure nothing is too dominant in the ‘blend’ of your resource anchor. You don’t want to fall down laughing every time you use your anchor – not very resourceful!
If anything is too dominant or your resource anchor hasn’t got enough power or oomph to do the job you need it to just anchor more feelings (states) on the SAME knuckle until the anchor is balanced and it does do the job you want it to do! Sometimes you might need to add more feelings that have more energy or power to them or are more calm and relaxed or centred so it works the way you need it to. You will know when it feels just right for you!
Now enjoy the results! You can fire off/use your resource anchor whenever you need to.
