It has been noted that great and charismatic speakers of our time, e.g. John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King, were able to have an audience entirely with them, within a few sentences of opening a speech or presentation. What they unconsciously used is something known as a Charisma Pattern and it allows you to build rapport with a group within just a few minutes.
By using the different preferred representational systems/processing preferences in a group you can ensure you pick up everyone
so they are all processing in the same way and build rapport very quickly and easily.
The pattern itself simply moves through the preferences from Kinesthetic through Auditory to Visual, K -> A -> V. People with a Kinesthetic preference are picked up first otherwise you risk blowing rapport with them from the beginning.
How to develop and deliver a Charisma Pattern:
Step 1 – K
Start by welcoming people in Kinesthetic, using a lower pitched voice, a little hesitant, with some pauses and use Kinesthetic/feeling words, e.g. "Good morning, er, how are you all feeling this morning? … How is everyone doing? I feel .… very excited to be here.
Are you ready for, er, Being a Charismatic Presenter?"
Step 2 - A
Speed up a little bit, raise your pitch a bit more, be less hesitant and use Auditory/hearing words, e.g."Today we are going to speak
about being an excellent presenter. And hearing some of you talking before, it sounds like you are really excited about what we have to tell you."
Step 3 - V
Speak faster, make your voice higher and use Visual/seeing words, e.g. "We will be showing you many techniques today and if you look at your manual you will see just how easily you can be an excellent and charismatic presenter."
After delivering all 3 steps in sequence, K -> A -> V, you will have picked up everyone in the group and gained group rapport.
