The other day I watched a movie called Greenfingers, starring Clive Owen. It is a movie about how an inmate, Colin, in an open prison
discovers his talent for gardening when he grows some violets in the hardest and most infertile soil in the prison grounds.
Having impressed the prison Governor, Colin and a number of other mates are assigned the task to cultivate the prison’s first garden.
One evening whilst reading up on gardening Colin reads out the following to his roommate:
'It all comes down to what you want your garden to do and what flowers you want to grow.'
On hearing that it made me think about how life is like a garden.
Have you thought about what you want your life to do?
Later in the movie the inmates have an opportunity to enter the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and start planning their garden design. One wants the focus of the garden to be flowers with beautiful scents, another wild flowers and another vegetables.
What kind of flowers do you want to grow?
Have you decided on the kind of relationships you want to be in, the career you want to fulfill, the family life you want to nurture,
the health you want to enjoy, the spirituality you want to achieve, and the personal development you want to experience and enhance the quality of your life with?
We can all design whatever garden we want and plant and nurture whatever flowers we want to enjoy. And of course even in the hardest and most infertile soil it is possible to grow the most delicate and beautiful violets just like in the movie.
So whether you are designing your garden from scratch or doing a redesign the choice is always yours. And just like with any garden design remember there should always be balance.
Are you ready to design and grow the garden of your life?
